The Shawshank Redemption

This is a 1994 film starring Tim Robbins directed by Frank Darabont based on the story written by Stephen King. This film retells the story of banker Andy Dufresne whose simple life is shattered when he is wrongly accused of murdering his wife at their home. Eventually convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Going to the Shawshank Redemption Penitentiary Cell is the last thing Dufresne could ever imagine, much more when he discovers the distressing environment and life of a convict. He is disgruntled to find the messy and disappointing life in the prison cell.

Andy soon befriends Red Redding (Morgan Freeman), where he learns so many lessons in life including the reality of being an inmate. He soon discovers the real perpetrator of the crime on his wife, but later was murdered inside the jail.

He also uncovers the corrupt practices in the jail and offers several suggestions to the administrators using his expertise in finance. He tricks officers to reveal the anomalies and later becomes the instrument of change in the adminstration.

Thinking he would never be given a parol, Dufresne digs a hole in his cell until reaching the tunnel (much more like The Count of Monte Cristo). He becomes free at last and travels to an island in Mexico. Redding has been granted a parol years later and joins his friend in the island.

This is the story of friendship and freedom and the harsh reality of mistakenly accused of the crime that was never committed. A wonderful movie to watch with the whole family.
