Wheatgrass refers to young grasses of grain plants that are cut and freeze-dried to produce a potent food supplement. It contains chlorophyll, a green pigment found in plants. It contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E.

The popularity of Wheatgrass started in the 1930s when an Agricultural Chemist, Charles Schnabel, conducted an experiment with young grasses to nurse dying hens, as a result of his experiment the hens recovered and produced more eggs than the healthy hens. Since then numerous scientific research studies have been conducted on the nutritional components of Wheatgrass.
Wheatgrass promotes a strong immune system, healthy digestion, and healthy skin. It fights free radicals and inflammation and may prevent cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and joint problems. Wheatgrass is sold commercially in different variants: powder, tablet, and juice.
