A strict advertising regulations in China, where claiming health benefits without the backing of research studies, is strongly prohibited, made this Nestle product the first functional food for adults to be approved in China.
Nestlé Yiyang Supplement Powder is backed by research conducted by Nestle food scientists and Beijing researchers. The results of the research study were presented to the government's regulatory board before securing an approval for market distribution. This product targets China's aging population.

The process to seek approval from the government to make this product available in the Chinese market was quite long. Nestle's researchers and scientists had to cooperate with Beijing's researchers to come up with a credible result that this line of product is effective in addressing the mobility issues of the aging population.
Nestlé, a Switzerland-based company, and one of the world's largest food conglomerates, announced in December 2020, that they are launching an especially formulated milk for adults in China - the Nestlé Yiyang Supplement Powder,
This functional food aims to support mobility during the aging process, targeting consumers 50 years old and above. This milk supplement powder, according to Nestlé, consists of a unique combination of ingredients supporting the three pillars of mobility: bone health, muscle strength, and joint functionality.

The powdered beverage under the YIYANG®Active brand has been clinically proven to enhance mobility during aging and it is the first Nestlé product with functional food ingredients that has been approved in China.
The approval of these claims by the Chinese government is based on a human study of a fortified milk powder that has been "clinically proven to enhance mobility during aging."

The product was developed by the Nestlé Research and Development department and then tested in a clinical study in collaboration between experts from Nestlé and from the Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing.

"The results of the clinical study showed that the product in combination with tailored physical activity led to a significant increase in mobility of Chinese seniors with joint discomfort and thus improved their quality of life", said Marie Noëlle Horcajada, the Nestlé scientist who led the study.

"This approval is a recognition of the outstanding scientific work done by our teams over a long period, " said Catherine Macé, Deputy Head of the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences.

Nestlé Yiyang Supplement Powder is one of the first products with functional food claims allowed in China, because it takes a long time to register and apply for "health food" status in China compared to other countries due to the strict advertising restrictions in China.

Is this available outside China?
This supplement powder by Nestlé is only available in China because the formulation is backed by research conducted by Nestlé's nutritional scientists and researchers from Beijing University Third Hospital. The development of this product is especially for the Chinese adult market.
However, consumers outside China who may want to buy these products can place their order online but it is quite pricey due to the shipment charges.
